Joe & Rochelle Burman

When Morris Burman emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1949, he never dreamed of having a business that would provide for his family.

Today, his children, Joe and Rochelle, run the Burman Cabinet Corp. in Campbell.
The company, established in 1955 in San Jose, manufactures custom cabinets.

Taking over the family business was a gradual process for the younger Burmans. Growing up, the family discussed work at the dinner table, and Ms. Burman says she and her brother often hung out at the shop, especially during the summer months. Its not exactly a business-grooming process, she says, but  “we would help here and there, whenever there was a need.”

Joe and Rochelle Burman grew up and pursued their college education; he toward an accounting degree and she toward a teaching credential. When Joe Burman graduated in 1973, he joined his father in the cabinet business. Ms. Burman found herself doing more administrative work such as accounts payable, accounts receivables, and payroll. In 1975 she joined Burman Cabinet full time.
